Person In Critical Condition After Car Versus Pedestrian Crash: Police

Just after noon Thursday on Brewery Street, a 2011 Ford Taurus struck a pedestrian, who's hospitalized in critical condition, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A car versus pedestrian crash on Brewery Street Thursday is being investigated by police.

Just after noon, cops responded to the area of 50 Brewery Street after being alerted that a person had been struck by a car, according to police spokesperson Capt. Rose Dell. The person was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital for life-threatening injuries and was listed in critical condition., Dell said Thursday night.

The driver of a 2011 Ford Taurus, who remained on scene and cooperated with investigators, told investigators their version of what happened, according to Dell. He said he was driving in the far-right lane of Brewery Street heading toward Water Street while a second vehicle was traveling next to him in the center travel lane in the same direction, Dell said. He told cops he "then felt a collision" and pulled over to the side of the road, adding he didn't see the "pedestrian prior to the impact," according to Dell. The driver of the vehicle in the center lane said they observed the pedestrian standing in the middle of Brewery Street, not within a marked crosswalk, according to police investigators. They told police that the "pedestrian then began to cross the street in front of the Ford and was subsequently struck."
