NEW HAVEN, CT — Police are investigating two weekend carjackings, authorities said, one of an Uber driver.

Saturday at around 3 a.m., police were called to "Edwards Street after an Uber Eats
delivery driver reported that she had been carjacked at gunpoint by a young male," police spokesperson Capt. Rose Dell said.

The driver, a 48-year-old woman, told police that she pulled over to make her delivery when a "light-skinned, black male with a black ski mask walked up to her from Orange Street." Dressed in all black and around 16-years-old, Dell said, he "threatened to shoot her if she didn’t hand over her keys."

Dell said he then "grabbed her keys and took off in her black Mazda 2." Inside the car was her leather purse, credit cards, and house keys, Dell said.

Around eight hours later, the Hamden Police Department reported officers "found the car on Mather Street in their town," Dell said. New Haven police had the car towed back for forensic processing, Dell said.

Sunday, at around 2 a.m., cops were called to investigate a robbery on Nash Street, Dell said.

The 29-year-old victim told police he had walked from a bar on State Street to his home on
Nash Street and, "as he opened the door, he was accosted by a masked man with a black
handgun that demanded his cell phone and car keys," Dell said.

He handed the keys over, and the "robber took off in the victim’s gray Ford Escape" with Connecticut Registration BB30745, Dell said. The suspect was described as a "male with tan skin, around 5’6”, who wore dark clothing," Dell said.

Anyone with information on either incident is urged to call detectives at 203-946-6304 or
through the department’s anonymous tip-line at 866-888-TIPS (8477).
