Runner Robbed In New Haven: PD

A woman was robbed at knife-point, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A woman reported being robbed in College Woods at the edge of East Rock Park April 22.

A dog-walker called police around 7:30 a.m. to report hearing a woman's screams. The area was searched and a knife was eventually found. The victim called police later from her home to report the robbery, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

The woman said she was running in the park when she saw an older red car near Orange and Willow streets. As many as four people were inside. The car was seen again at Orange and English Drive. Two men got out and one asked for the time, Hartman said.

One held a knife and grabbed the victim's sweatshirt. They fought and fell to the ground. The robber took the woman's cellphone.

"The victim described the robber as a young (teens) black man with short braids, about 5’09” in height and wearing a black sweatshirt with thick red stripes on the sleeves," Hartman said. "She went back to the area she thought she’d been attacked with the officers. Detectives are following up on several leads in this case. The victim’s phone was eventually recovered."
