SCSU Hosts Free Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Prevention Courses

Free, open to the public, the courses teach folks how to provide initial help and support for a person suffering a mental health crisis.

NEW HAVEN, CT —The Southern Connecticut State University Wellbeing Center will host a variety of Mental Health training courses this spring that are free and open to the public.

The two programs being offered are Mental Health First Aid and QPR Suicide PreventionTraining. The MHFA training is an 8-hour course in which participants will learn how to identify, understand, and respond to mental illness and substance use disorders. The workshop will teach participants the skills needed to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

Southern’s series of free mental health training courses are made possible thanks to Federal CARES funding to support mental health awarded by the Governor's Emergency Education Relief grant.
