Shooting Victim Suffers Graze Wound After Bullet Hits Cellphone: PD

A man inside his car on Winthrop Avenue Tuesday night, who was shot and tried to flee, hitting another vehicle, is in stable condition: PD.

NEW HAVEN, CT —A man shot while inside a car on Winthrop Avenue Tuesday night is in stable condition after suffering a "graze" wound as his cell phone was struck by the bullet, police said.

It was just before 9 p.m., when police got a call about a shooting on the 300 block of Winthrop Avenue, New Haven police spokesperson Capt. Rose Dell said. When cops got there, they found the man who'd been shot lying in the roadway. Dell said investigators learned that the "victim was shot inside a vehicle and attempted to flee by reversing his vehicle, only to collide with a parked car across the street."

Taken to the hospital via ambulance, cops were later told the man, who was in a stable condition, suffered a graze wound since the bullet struck his phone, Dell said.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Bureau of Identification were deployed to the scene to gather evidence and search for video surveillance and witnesses.
