SnapChat 'Date' Goes Horribly Wrong For Man: New Haven PD

He was looking forward to meeting a date in New Haven, instead he was robbed.

NEW HAVEN, CT — What was supposed to be a date organized through social media app SnapChat turned into an armed robbery where a victim's mother's car was stolen, according to police.

A 25-year-old Bridgeport man took his mother's car to New Haven to meet up with a woman he met through SnapChat early Wednesday morning, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman. He was told to wait at 540 Sherman Parkway and that the woman's brother would meet him and bring him to her.

The victim met the man he thought was his date's brother, but he was then confronted by two other men. One of the men pushed him to the ground and another had a chrome handgun. He got up and ran away while the robbers gave chase.

The victim was helped by two women who spotted the victim being chased down Dixwell Avenue and picked him up, Hartman said. The women were going to bring the victim to the hospital, but spotted a police officer on Whalley Avenue near Sherman Avenue.
