Teen Injured In Bicycle Crash, Driver Assaulted: New Haven PD

A teen bicyclist was injured after a crash. His friend was arrested after he punched the driver, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A 15-year-old bicyclist was injured after colliding with a vehicle and another teen was arrested after he punched the vehicle driver, according to police.

The crash occurred around 8 p.m. March 27 at the intersection of York Street and Howard Avenue, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

A nearby paramedic attended to the injured teen and told police that acquaintances of the injured teen began to argue with the driver. One of the acquaintances reached through the open vehicle window and punched the driver, Hartman said.

An officer grabbed the 15-year-old assailant.

Both the injured teen and the injured driver were treated at the hospital.

Officers found that the injured teen was at fault for the crash and the driver wasn't charged. The teenage assailant was charged with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. It is his third arrest since he was 13-years-old.
