The man was on the lam until he was captured by U.S. Marshals.

NEW HAVEN, CT — U.S Marshals from the Raleigh, NC office captured a New Haven man wanted for the murder of 35-year-old Eric Lewis.

Elias Jamar Rivers, 34, had been on the lam and New Haven Police suspected he had fled the state, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman. They asked U.S. Marshals for help in tracking down Rivers April 20.

Rivers is charged with murder, criminal possession of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit. His arrest record goes back to 2000. Rivers himself was shot in February 2017. The case remains unsolved and Rivers has been uncooperative, Hartman said.

“This is team-work”, said New Haven Police Chief Anthony Campbell. “It’s so very important that we can report this news to the victim’s family."
