Yale Professor Wins Nobel Economics Prize

Yale University Professor and New Haven resident William Nordhaus won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Yale University Sterling Professor of Economics William Nordhaus was one of the winners of the 2018 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science.

Nordhaus worked on assessing the economic impact of climate change and has urged governments to tax carbon emissions, according to the New York Times. Paul Romer also won the prize for his work to encourage technological innovation.

Nordhaus has been a Yale faculty member since 1967 and lives in New Haven with his wife Barbara who works at the Yale Child Study Center, according to his Yale biography. To sign up for New Haven breaking news alerts and more, click here.

The Nobel Prize is the latest in accolades for Nordhaus. He won the "Distinguished Fellow" from the American Economic Association in 2004. He has serves on the Congressional Budget Office Panel of Economic Experts.

Nordhaus completed undergraduate work at Yale and reeived his Ph.D in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
