Yale Rescinds Admission Of Student In Scandal
The university has rescinded the admission of a student after a nationwide college admissions scandal.
NEW HAVEN, CT — Yale University has rescinded the admission of a student after a nationwide college admissions scandal that culminated with about 50 people being criminally charged.
Yale has started a review of its admissions process and has sought external counsel, according to the Yale Daily News.
Actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman are two of the most well-known parents who have been charged, but other parents include high-profile lawyers, entrepreneurs, fashion designers and CEOs.

Former Yale University women's soccer coach Rudy Meredith is charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and honest services wire fraud. He is alleged to have taken a $400,000 bribe to help a student get accepted to the prestigious university. He designated the student as a recruit for the soccer team despite the fact that she didn't play competitive soccer, according to the indictment.
Meredith met with the father on another applicant in Boston and said he would designate his child as a soccer recruit in exchange for a $450,000 payment, according to the indictment. The meeting was recorded by the FBI and money was wired to Meredith's account by the FBI.

Several other top-tier universities were affected by the scandal.
The indictment centers around Edge College and Career Network LLC also known as "The Key," a for-profit college counseling and preparation business headquartered in California and founded by William Rick Singer. Wealthy parents paid Singer about $25 million between 2011 and 2019 with money going to bribe coaches and college administrators.
Singer and others helped facilitate creating false student athlete profiles that depicted prospective students at successful players, however, many didn't even play the designated sport at any kind of competitive level,according to the indictment.
