Elderly Woman Killed in Newington Crash

NEWINGTON, CT — A Newington woman was killed and a Rocky Hill man sustained serious injuries in a two-car collision near Webster Court Wednesday.

Police responded to Webster Street at 2:30 p.m. and found a gray Subaru Impreza and a gray Honda Civic, each of which sustained severe damage from an apparent head-on collision, according to Officer Jamie DeSimone.

Both operators, who were sole occupants of the vehicles, sustained serious injuries and were transported to area hospitals, DeSimone said.

Theresa Castagna, 76, of Newington, was pronounced deceased at Hartford Hospital. The other operator was identified as Jake Ciccaglione, 25, of Rocky Hill.

The crash is currently being investigated by members of the Mid-State Accident Reconstruction Squad. Police are asking any witnesses to the collision to contact Det. Leroy Feeney of the Newington Police Department at 860-594-6208.
