New Lottery Game Roll Leads to Big Bankroll for Newington Resident

A Newington resident recently won large off a lottery ticket.

NEWINGTON, CT — Anne Marie Burns of Newington told Connecticut Lottery officials she simply knew the scratch game, “Quarter Million Large” would produce a lucky ticket.

And it did — to the tune of $250,000.

“I had my heart set on this game since it came out,” Burns smiled as she recently claimed the top prize.

Burs said while at the Newington Food Land, a CT Lottery retailer, she saw a new book of Quarter Million Large scratch tickets being opened. She said she then decided to purchase a few.

“I happened to win," she said. "The retailer asked me, ‘Why aren’t you jumping?’ I said, ‘I’m not jumping because I haven’t claimed it yet.’”

The quarter-million-dollar win comes at a convenient time for the Newington resident.

“I’m going to the Caribbean in seven days. I was born there,” she said.

Travel is not the only thing on Burns’ mind. She said she wants to pay off her house and simply enjoy life.

When asked if she will continue to play the CT Lottery games, Burns nodded and said that she enjoys playing but always does so responsibly.

For selling the winning ticket, Newington Food Land, located on 60 Walsh Ave. in Newington, will receive a $2,500 bonus check.

The overall odds of winning a Quarter Million Large prize are 1 in 3.40.
