Here is how Newington voted in the 2016 election.

NEWINGTON, CT — Registered voters in Newington had an early start to the polls on Nov. 8 for the 2016 election, and the momentum continued until the balloting closed at 8 p.m.

  • (D) Richard Blumenthal - 8,768 - 58.65 percent
  • (R) Dan Carter - 4,998 - 33.43 percent
  • (WF) Blumenthal - 881 - 5.89 percent
  • (G) Jeffery Russell - 153 - 1.02 percent

NEWINGTON, CT — Newington residents headed to the polls Tuesday for the 2016 midterm election. Polling places in Newington are now closed.

In Newington, the choice for 9th Senatorial District involves Democratic incumbent Paul Doyle and Republican challenger Earle Roberts. Doyle is a five-term incumbent and Deputy Majority Leader. Roberts is a former Middletown city council member.

For the 24th State House District, the Democratic incumbent is Rick Lopes and the Republican challenger is James Sanders, Jr. Lopes is serving his second term. Sanders is a New Britain alderman-at-large.

In the 27th State House District, the Republican incumbent is Gary Byron and the Democratic challenger is Joshua Schulman. Byron is serving his first term. Schulman is a member of the Newington school board.

In the 29th State House District, the Democratic incumbent is Antonio Guerrera and the Republican challenger is Todd Brown. Guerrera is serving his eighth term. Brown is a political newcomer who works for a small family-owned manufacturing company.

The candidates for president and vice president are Republicans Donald Trump and Mike Pence, Democrats Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine, Libertarians Gary Johnson and Bill Weld, and Green Party Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka.

For United States Senate, the candidates are Democratic incumbent Richard Blumenthal, Republican Dan Carter, Libertarian Richard Lion and Green Party Jeffery Russell.

For United States Congress, the choice is between Democratic incumbent John Larson, Republican Matthew Corey and Green Party S. Michael DeRosa.
