For Achilles athletes, participating in a marathon is something much more. The Eversource Hartford Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K, provides an opportunity that empowers individuals with physical and developmental disabilities and medical conditions. Participation in mainstream running events is the foundation of the Achilles International mission - to promote personal achievement and lower barriers to living an active life.
“These girls know the importance of physical fitness and have experienced the joy of a participating in athletics,” said Veronica Grubin, Newington High School Field Hockey Coach who is also ran with the team in the event on October 12th. “As a team, we are proud to support Achilles and the opportunity the organization gives for athletes with limitations,” she continued.
