Newington PD's Newest Law Enforcer Has Four Legs

NEWINGTON, CT — Local police have a new officer in town and he's of the four-legged variety.

Friday, the Newington Police Department officially introduced K-9 officer "Ray," an 18-month-old Dutch Shepherd who comes to the NPD from Red Devil K-9 in Florida.

He will be serving the community alongside Officer Nicholas Casasanta.

Ray will be attending the Capital Region K-9 Training Academy over the next several months and will be trained in both patrol work and narcotics detection.

He will also be available to participate in community events.

"We would like to thank our community partners for their support in order to make this dream a reality, particularly the Hometown Foundation Inc. and the Stanton Foundation," wrote the NPD in a statement Friday.

"We would also like to thank East Hartford Police Department Sgt. Todd Mona for all of his assistance during this process."
