Radio Host Claims Robbery Attempt Prompted Newington Assault
He is charged with assaulting a man at a Newington gas station in early March.

NEWINGTON, CT — A morning-drive radio host charged in connection with a March 8 assault at a Newington gas station told police he believed he was being robbed at the time of the incident, the Hartford Courant reported.
Joseph Aguiar, 41, of Wethersfield, who hosts a morning program on The River 105.9, was arrested April 11 on a warrant charging him with third-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree breach of peace. He is free on $75,000 bond, according to court documents.
An arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the Courant indicates Aguiar exited the Mobil convenience store on Fenn Road and saw a man sitting in what Aguiar believed was his vehicle. He pulled the man out of the car and threw him down to the ground, then realized shortly thereafter he had been mistaken about the vehicle.
