State Money Approved for Diesel Fuel Cleanup in Newington

The fuel spill beneath the town's bus garage on Garfield Street was discovered in late December.

NEWINGTON, CT — The State Bond Commission approved $1.5 million Friday for the cleanup of the diesel fuel spill that was discovered in late December beneath the town’s bus garage on Garfield Street, according to an announcement from Rep. Tony Guerrera.

“I am thrilled this money is headed to Newington,” Guerrera said. “The town was on the hook for a big price tag to clean up the diesel and oil under the bus garage. These state dollars ease the pain.”

Guerrera worked with the Newington legislative delegation, town officials, the governor’s office and Office of Policy and Management Secretary Ben Barnes to secure the $1.5 million for Newington.
