SUV Slams Restaurant Sunday, Worker Injured: Newington PD
The eatery is located on the Berlin Turnpike and it has been closed down because of the crash.

NEWINGTON, CT — Local police are still investigating a frightening accident Sunday in which a vehicle slammed into a restaurant, damaged a fryolator, and sent an employee to the hospital.
According to the Newington Police Department, the incident happened at 12:46 p.m. at the Friendly's restaurant, located at 3420 Berlin Turnpike.
Police said the driver of a Toyota Sienna crashed into the south side of the building.

As a result of the crash, a fryolator inside was "displaced," police said, and during the crash, it spilled hot cooking oil on a Friendly's worker.
This employee suffered injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

No other injuries were reported.
In addition, the accident severed a gas line as well as power to the restaurant, according to the NPD, with Connecticut Natural Gas responding to the scene and containing the gas leak.
The Newington Building Department inspected the building and rendered the restaurant unsafe for occupancy, police said.

The crash is being investigated by the Newington Police Department and the Newington Fire Marshal's Office.
