10-Year Veteran New London Police Officer to be Promoted to Detective
Police said he has distinguished himself as one of the region's leading DUI enforcement officers.

NEW LONDON, CT - The New London Police Department announced Wednesday that 10-year veteran officer Joshua Bergeson will be promoted from the rank of police officer to detective on February 17.
Bergeson is a United State's Marine Corps veteran having enlisted right out of high school. He Bergeson served in support of “Operation Iraqi Freedom” in March of 2003, according to a release.
Bergeson’s late father, Axel, worked for the New London Police Department for 21 years and attained the rank of lieutenant before his unexpected passing in 1995. His uncle, Gary, worked as a supernumerary officer in New London before taking a full time position at the Groton Long Point Police Department, while his brother, Todd, is currently a captain with the New London Police Department.

Bergeson is a member of the Department’s Crisis Intervention Team, Bicycle Patrol Unit and Rifle Squad. He has received numerous letters of accommodation throughout his career.
He has distinguished himself as one of the region’s leading DUI enforcement officers and has has been the recipient of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) award four times in his career. Bergeson has been assisting instructors at the Police Academy, teaching new recruits DUI enforcement.

He will be assigned to the department's Detective Bureau.
