2 People Drowning As New London Police Officers Rush To Rescue Them

NEW LONDON, CT — Police officers were able to rescue two people who were drowning early Sunday, police said.

At 1:43 a.m. New London police officers were patrolling the downtown area when they were informed that two people were drowning near the pier at the end of the Bank Street Connector.

Officers immediately responded to the location and observed two individuals in the water.

"Acting quickly, officers pulled both individuals — an adult male and an adult female — from the water," police said. "Neither person was conscious or alert at the time they were removed from the water."

The New London Fire Department responded and transported both individuals to the hospital for emergency medical treatment. At this time, both parties remain hospitalized and under medical care.

“I commend the quick response and decisive actions of our officers, as well as the New London Fire Department, in providing immediate assistance during a critical and life-threatening situation,” said New London Police Chief Brian M. Wright.

The incident remains under active investigation.
