Wine and CHocolate Pair for an Extravagna
A fundraiser to benefit Field of Greens Markets on April 16, 2016
NEW LONDON, CT – March 23, 2016 — The New London Field of Greens Markets, Thames Valley Sustainable Connections, and the Mitchell College Hospitality Department will be presenting the 2016 Wine & Chocolate Extravaganza. This fundraiser will benefit the Field of Greens Markets and the local farmers and entrepreneurs that participate. The Extravaganza will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the Clarke and Weller Centers at Mitchell College.
The fundraiser supports New London Field of Greens Food Security Program which includes a special SNAP bonus program, and a yearly series on food preservation, from natural cheese and yogurt making, special soups, and canning classes. The fundraiser, which is now a yearly tradition, continues with the support of Dr. Denise Braley’s Hospitality & Tourism students at Mitchell College who help to plan and support the event. This partnership allows students the opportunity to showcase their event planning skills.
The Extravaganza will feature wine tastings from Thames River Wines & Spirits, a wine seminar by Christopher Fiore, Professor of Beverage Operations at Mitchell College, and spirits from Foggy Harbor, Funky Bow and Revival Brewing in addition to chocolate cream soda from Hosmer Soda Company. Chocolate and other pairings are brought to you by A Thyme to Cook, Director of Mitchell College Dining Services Tim Grills, Bean & Leaf Café, Sugar It Up, Café NV Bakery, Lindt Chocolate, Newman’s Own, Jasmine Thai, Mr. G’s, Tastefully Simple, and You Take the Cake. Music will be provided by Professor George Wezner and his band, Soul City CT playing jazz to pop. A basket raffle will also be held during the evening. Monies raised will help support the Market which is held from July to October in New London and Groton.
Tickets are $25 per person in advance or $30 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.tvsci.org/ (click on Wine & Chocolate) or at Bean & Leaf Café, 463 Bank Street, Studio 33, 140 Bank Street, Thames River Wine & Spirits, 70 State Street or through Dr. Braley.
