The Ledge Light Health District’s Falls Prevention Coalition is sponsoring its 2nd Annual Falls Prevention Expo on September 30th at the Groton Senior Center at 102 Newtown Road in Groton from 9am-1pm. The Commissioner of the State Department on Aging, Betsy Ritter, will help kick off the event that will have free screenings and information on how seniors can stay strong. 1 out of 3 seniors will fall every year, sometimes with life altering effects. The goal of this annual event is to provide screenings, education and demonstrations on how to stay healthy and prevent falls. There will be balance, hearing, vision and blood pressure screenings by healthcare professionals. Bring a list of all of your medications and review them with the pharmacist David Wu. Talk to a nutritionist about healthy eating, see all of the new medical alert technology and sign up with the Red Cross to have smoke detectors installed by them in your home. Get your flu shot, relax with a massage and watch a demonstration of Tai Chi. Sign up to have a free in-home safety audit by our volunteers who will make suggestions on ways to prevent falls inside and outside your home. Join us! There will also be refreshments, giveaways and raffles.
