3 Juveniles Charged After School Lockdown: New London Police

Police seized a BB gun and a knife after investigating an incident that prompted a lockdown at a middle school in New London on Monday.

NEW LONDON, CT — Three juveniles have been arrested in connection with an incident that prompted a lockdown at a middle school in New London on Monday afternoon, according to police.

Police responded to Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School at 35 Waller St. around 1:15 p.m. on the report of a student having a gun inside the school, according to Capt. Matthew Galante. The school was placed in a lockdown, and police investigated with the assistance of school staff.

Police seized a BB gun and a knife during the investigation, according to Galante.

“During the course of the investigation, it was reported that the BB gun was discharged inside of the school,” Galante wrote in a news release. “The investigation into this incident is active and ongoing.”

Three juveniles were arrested and have been referred to juvenile court, according to Galante.

The school was locked down for about 50 minutes, Galante said. No students or staff members were injured during the incident.

One juvenile was charged with two counts of possession of / carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds.

Another juvenile was charged with possession of / carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds and reckless endangerment.

A third juvenile was charged with possession of / carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds.
