Advisories In Effect For 20 New London County Swimming Areas

The Ledge Light Health District has issued swimming advisories for numerous bathing areas.

NEW LONDON, CT — Swimming advisories are in effect for 20 bathing areas in the county, according to the Ledge Light Health District.

The following beaches had high bacterial counts during sampling the health district conducted Monday:

The health district noted that the water will be resampled at these swimming areas Wednesday.

The district noted that rain or other contamination events occurring before the Monday sampling may have contributed to elevated bacterial counts. Areas with stormwater runoff or low water turnover like inland bathing areas are particularly vulnerable to increased bacterial counts following rainfall.
