New London High School Students Committed to the Community

In 2012 the volunteer makeup was somewhat different for the New London Irish Parade Inc. Eight new energetic volunteers gave their time and talents to make the largest ever single day event in New London the amazing success that it was. When you think of volunteers with this level of commitment high school students are not the first members of the community that we think of.

Kya Lewis and Karina Reitz are New London high school students that have demonstrated that they are the future leaders of our community and will help New London to prosper. These young leaders have bright and fruitful careers ahead of them.

Ernest Hewett State Representative from the 39th district presented these young men and women with a proclamation from the Connecticut General Assembly, honoring their commitment to the community, sense of responsibility and level of social conscience that is so lacking in people today.

The New London City Council and the Mayor’s office also presented a citation and letter to each of these young pioneers expressing gratitude and pride in their involvement in New London.

It is a wonderful day in New London when the leadership at the state and local level can join with the New London Irish Parade Inc. to recognize these amazing high school students for all that they do.

As business partners in the community 2Wives Brick Oven Pizza, Coca-Cola of Southern New England and PFG (Performance Food Group) came together with the New London Irish Parade to host a reception in honor our students of distinction. PINC! (a unique boutique), Muddy Waters and Little Sister’s Bake Shop provided gifts as their way of recognizing the good that these students do in the community.

Like most organizations the New London Irish Parade Inc. is dependent on volunteer’s shoulders to carry the burdens of the nonprofit.  As a 501.C3 charitable organization no one involved draws compensation of any type. As with many other nonprofits and fraternal organizations you see the same base core of volunteers. These New London High School students are changing that.
