Two Coast Guard Academy wrestlers earned pins in a Tuesday contest against Rhode Island College, but the Bears ultimately lost to the Anchormen. The following information was provided by the Coast Guard Academy:
Sophomore 149 lbs. Remington Alves and freshman heavyweight Brandon Regnault each picked up pins as Rhode Island College defeated Coast Guard, 37-6, in a Pilgrim Wrestling match held at The Murray Center.
The Anchormen improve to 11-8 overall and 3-1 in the league, while Coast Guard suffers its seventh straight loss, falling to 1-15 overall and 0-4 in league action.
RIC quickly took a 10-0 lead as junior Kyle Bousquet won by forfeit and was followed by a major decision, 12-4, in favor of junior Brandon Gauthier who had bumped up a weight from his normal 125 lbs. position.
Coast Guard freshman Scott Coull pulled the visitors within seven points, 10-3, with a decision at 141 lbs., but Alves’ win by fall quickly put the Anchormen back up by a comfortable margin.
Senior Andy Snyder beat RIC sophomore Ryan Rheaume, 5-1, in a battle of the No. 2 and 8 ranked wrestlers in New England at 157 lbs. Snyder leads the team with 29 wins on the season.
That would prove to be the last win of the night for the Bears, who gave up a forfeit and decisions by junior Brendan Guarino and senior Chris Dean to seal their fate.
Regnault’s pin at heavyweight capped the night for the hosts.
