Artist Academy at Hygienic presents FURTHER FROM THE DIVINE: A raw approach to art

New London – On Tuesday December 22nd from 7-9pm The Artist Academy @ Hygienic hosts a workshop led by Hygienic’s own resident artist Casey Spectacular titled “FURTHER FROM THE DIVINE: A raw approach toart.”

Casey Spectacular is an artist in residence of Hygienic Arts living and working in New London, Connecticut. Spectacular is a painter, writer, videographer, and performance artist. His work has been shown in galleries, magazines, coffee shops, bars, and other various establishments across America. The work he creates, a theatrical analysis of human tragedy, reflects his belief that life is comical, dramatic, and heart breaking. Spectacular creates a soap-opera world of characters marred by smudged mascara, cigarette breath, and social ineptitude. Though loud and needy, they are never as important as what surrounds them. He is a storyteller - he turns everyday life into a theater of the absurd. His art is a celebration of human imperfection while being as gritty and cheap as a VHS tape.

In the workshop, “Further from the “Divine”: A raw approach to art”, Spectacular will open up a discussion to topics such as: How do you feel about art that makes you sad? Are you an artist who creates work that has been described as raw, disturbing, ugly, or morose? Why do we create and recreate these emotions? As artists who reach into the darkness, what are we up against? Spectacular will also delve into such topics as art history’s “fall from grace,” why you do what you do, and the business aspect of showing your work.
