Bay Path Tops Mitchell In Tennis Match

Women's tennis team falls 8-1

The Mitchell College women's tennis team lost a match 8-1 to Bay Patch College at a home competition on Friday. The following information was provided by David Longolucco, sports information director at Mitchell College:

Bay Path (6-2 overall, 3-1 NECC) started the match by sweeping all three doubles points. The duo of Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton) and Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) won at the No. 1 spot by a convincing 8-0 final to set the pace.

The Mariners salvaged one point in the singles portion of the competition thanks to the play of sophomore Mackenzie Flanagan (San Anselmo, Calif./San Domenico), who faced off with Costa at the top spot. Flanagan captured the first set 6-4 but fell 5-7 in the second. The pair then played a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a third set, with Flanagan pulling out the win behind a 12-10 advantage.

The Wildcats took the remaining five singles matches in straight sets. Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) won at fifth singles without even dropping a game while Teanna Montoya (Edgartown, Mass./Martha’s Vineyard Regional) and Tara Mullane (Pomfret, Conn./Woodstock Academy) each won by 6-1, 6-1 finals.

Mitchell (1-6 overall, 0-5 NECC) returns to the court on Saturday, October 9 against Lesley University. The match is scheduled to begin at noon at the Mitchell Tennis Courts. Bay Path will next host Regis College on Sunday, October 9 at 1 p.m.
