Sock-wearin' Weather

Good bye flip flops.

It’s that time of year again. Time to save money on my pedicures and cover up my piggies with socks. I’m feeling pretty bummed about it today.

I’m not a big foot person. Feet are mildly gross. Especially men's feet. I know one guy who wears sandals all year long. The guy wears sandals in the winter! I can’t let a sighting go by without telling him to put his big toes away. I just like to give him a hard time, but it started me thinking…those are some tough toes. But they are probably not stinky. Men really don’t have a way to gussy up those sausages, though.

Now, girls, on the other hand, have nail polish and toe rings and all sorts of things to try to make their feet look better. I quite like to have my toes painted. It’s very girly. When you paint your toes it tells people that you take a little pride in the way you look. Hitting the beach in the summer with flip flops and breaking out those sassy toenails when my foot hits the sand makes me feel like I put a little effort in. Which doesn’t happen that often. And there is really nothing like getting a pedicure and having a good leg rub-down. It’s a little touch of heaven.

I even have a pedicure friend. Someone that I meet up with once a month and we sit in our massaging chairs and drink our coffees (sometimes mini wine bottles) and just relax. We share polish bottles and gossip. I can’t give that up.

So my feet are taking a little hibernation for the winter. They’ll still be in tip top shape, but they’ll be all cozied up and have to take backstage to my shoe choice. Which, honestly, is a bit sketchy. I like “comfortable shoes”. As a rule I really don’t wear very feminine shoes. I’m trying to get better. Once winter hits though, I’m all about warmth. I have heard that there’s a strain of people out there who don’t wear socks in the winter and this unnerves me. Why? Why wouldn’t you just be warm?

So anyway, I won’t have to shave my big toes as much, and I’m hitting the nail spa this week for a gussying up. But my feet will see you next summer.
