Benedict Arnold to be 'indicted' by the Flock Theatre group

A New London theater company is planning to “indict” Connecticut native Benedict Arnold in advance of a festival that will see a nine-foot likeness of him burned in effigy. The Flock Theatre says an indictment of Arnold, a native of Norwich, will be read Tuesday Sept. 2nd in front of the Shaw Mansion.

The festival On Sept. 6th will feature a parade starting at Shaw Mansion, one of the only buildings that didn’t burn down. Performances will be at the Shaw Mansion and Hempstead Houses, and parade. A proclamation will also announce his “burning” at the Custom House Pier on Sept. 6. On that day in 1781, he led the British into on New London and torched it. Dozens of Americans died during the Battle of Groton Heights. The burning will be part of the theater’s second annual “Burning of Benedict Arnold Festival.”
