Stained Glass Strip Panels: 2-day workshop for beginners at Spark Makerspace on Saturday 8/8 &amp; Sunday 8/9, 10-3p.
Two-Day Beginner Workshop!
This
 is a perfect project for those with little or no experience working 
with stained glass. You will construct a colorful art glass strip panel 
up to 12 inches long, suitable for hanging in a window. You will be 
taught the techniques of the copper foil method of construction and 
learn to score, grind, foil, solder, frame and finish the entire piece 
in this 2-day workshop.
All materials included.
Be sure to bring your lunch with you. There will not be enough time to get food off-site. Please note: sufficient
 hand dexterity and the ability to stand while working with tools are 
required. There will be a class break; bringing a snack/lunch is 
encouraged. Closed-toed shoes must be worn.

We Met at Grossinger’s is an immersive journey through the Jewish Catskills—once known as the Borscht Belt—reviving the iconic resort that inspired Dirty Dancing and defined an era of Jewish American life and entertainment.
Throughout decades of prejudice stifling the integration of Jewish immigrants in America, the Borscht Belt in the Catskills provided an oasis of belonging, and Grossinger’s Resort and Hotel was the crown jewel. The real-life inspiration for the setting of the 1987 classic film Dirty Dancing, Grossinger’s provided both a physical and mental getaway where Jews—and others from marginalized communities—needing a break from NYC could relax.
The resort’s growing reputation attracted a wide variety of comedians, athletes, and political figures, including Mel Brooks, Jerry Seinfeld, Jackie Robinson and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Award-winning filmmaker Paula Eiselt (Aftershock, 93Queen), Producer Robert Friedman, and Mitchell Grossinger Etess – former President and CEO of the Mohegan, and a subject in the film – host an audience chat and Q&amp;A.

 forms of printmaking. We will explore types of carving blocks, inks, 
and papers, and you will learn how to transfer your design and carve and
 ink the block. You will then handprint your design on fabric. Bring two
 items of clothing with you to print. For best results, clothing should 
be made of cotton, denim, or linen.&nbsp;&nbsp;

All photographers are cordially invited to submit up to three works in Color or Black &amp; White for consideration in this year’s juried photography exhibition at the Hygienic Art Gallery. Meet Our Juror: Todd Gipstein Award-winning photographer, writer, producer, and lecturer Todd Gipstein brings more than 50 years of experience in visual storytelling. A Harvard graduate, Todd spent decades with National Geographic, traveling the world creating acclaimed productions on culture, history, nature, and photography. His work has earned more than 40 Gold Awards, numerous international honors, and a place in the Association for Multi-Media International Producers Hall of Fame. He also collaborated with Vice President Al Gore on the media presentation that evolved into the Academy Award-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth. We're honored to have Todd serve as this year's juror. All artists participating can submit their work in person at the Hygienic Art Gallery on August 20th &amp; August 21st from Noon to 7 PM.  how to Screen Print at Spark! We'll take you through the whole process 
of creating a one-color print, and you'll take home prints of your own 
design! This class covers successful design elements, creating the 
screen using the photographic process, printing on fabric and paper, and
 how to reuse your silkscreen.

This beginner-friendly class is
 an introduction to the relief process, the technique used in the oldest
 forms of printmaking. By creating a single-color linocut print, you 
will learn the basics of relief printing. We will explore types of 
carving blocks, inks, and papers, and you will learn how to prepare your
 carving block, transfer your design, and carve and ink the block. You 
will make several prints, both by handprinting and using the printing 
press. (After this class, members will be certified to use the press for
 relief printing.)
Please read through the relief printing handout (found<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZIdbivWF_zVy7_nQBSp9lS8wLMfvIbBH/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener"> here</a>) before class, and bring a simple design no larger than 5x8 inches. A good beginner design has a bold image, thick lines, and no fine details.
 Keeping it simple will help you avoid frustration and allow you to 
focus on the fundamentals of printmaking. You can find some great ideas 
by searching for free black and white vector art. Several design options
 will also be available to choose from in class.
Certification for Members: Printing Press&nbsp;
Members who demonstrate proper use of the printing press can be certified for independent access to the tool.

Rustic-chic private farm venue in scenic Stonington, CT 

Deans Mill Farm 

Built in the mid-1700s as a functioning livestock farm, Deans Mill Farm has gone through an evolution in recent decades. A full renovation of the historic buildings and rejuvenation of the surrounding 70+ acres has made the property into the incredible venue it is today. Deans Mill Farm now operates primarily as a private event space and five-room bed and breakfast tucked down a private road in Stonington, Connecticut. It shares its property with Dragonfly Equestrian Center and is home to dozens of horses. On the property lies meadows, hiking trails, beautiful fields and Dragonfly Disc Golf. The property can be rented for weddings, birthday parties and other special events. Additionally, the bed and breakfast can be rented by the room or reserved in its entirety for complete privacy. The Farm has the ability to host small private indoor events for up to 50 guests in the Farmhouse. Outdoor tented events are our specialty, with numerous locations on-site that are picturesque for your celebration. Outdoor tented celebrations can accommodate up to 250 guests.
