Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay Hospitalized After CT Bike Accident

Ramsay stressed the importance of wearing a helmet and praised the staff at the Connecticut hospital where he was treated.

NEW LONDON, CT — Gordon Ramsay is crediting a helmet with saving his life following a bike accident. He was treated at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, and he praised the doctors and staff at the hospital.

He wrote on X:

"An important #FathersDay message from me…WEAR A HELMET ! This week I had a bad accident while riding my bike in CT. I'm doing ok and I’m thankful for all the doctors, nurses and staff at @LMHospital who looked after me but most thankful for my helmet that saved my life. Be Safe"

In a video accompanying the post, he said: "I'd like to share a very important message with you all. You know how much I love cycling, and triathlons and Iron Mans, etcetera, and this week, unfortunately, I had a really bad accident, and it really shook me. And honestly, I'm lucky to be here."

After calling the hospital staff "incredible" and "amazing," he went on to say, "You've got to wear a helmet.

"I don't care how short the journey is. I don't care, you know, the fact that these helmets cost money, but they're crucial, even with the kids. A short journey, they've got to wear a helmet.

"I'm lucky to be standing here. I'm in pain. It's been a brutal week, and I'm sort of getting through it."

He then lifted up his chef's coat to show a large, dark bruise covering the side of his body. He said that if he wasn't wearing a helmet he "wouldn't be here now."

Ramsay didn't say where exactly the bike accident occurred.

Ramsay has spent time in Connecticut recently as his show "Hell's Kitchen" will be filming its 23rd and 24th seasons at Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Ramsay, a Michelin-star chef, also opened the sixth Hell's Kitchen restaurant last July at Foxwoods' Grand Pequot Tower.
