Coast Guard Academy Keep Curry Scoreless

Bears post 2-0 win in men's soccer

The Coast Guard Academy posted another win Thursday, defeating Curry College 2-0 in men's soccer. The following information was provided by Jason Southard, sports information director at the Coast Guard Academy:

Junior Greg Kennerley converted a penalty kick in the first half and senior Brett Godiksen added an insurance goal in the second half leading Coast Guard to a 2-0 win over Curry in a non-conference game.

Coast Guard sophomore Joe Bodzewski was tackled in the box in the 14th minute giving Kennerley the penalty kick which he converted for his first career goal and a 1-0 lead.

Godiksen scored his team leading sixth goal of the season in the 76th minute with sophomore Bobby Copeland assisting to close the scoring.

Sophomore Carlos Gonzalez, making the second start of his career and of the season, made four saves and registered his second shutout to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Sophomore James Oliver (0-1) made five saves and took the loss for the Colonels, who were outshot 11-7.

Coast Guard improved to 4-2 on the season, all four wins have come by shutout while Curry drops to 4-5 overall.
