Conn College Outshoots Bears

The women's basketball team picked up their 15th win of the season in a game against a neighboring school, defeating the on Monday. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

Jenn Shinall (Redding, Conn.) poured in a game-high 22 points to lead the Connecticut College women's basketball team to a 67-38 victory against the Coast Guard at Luce Field House Monday. Shinall was 6-for-7 from three point distance and 2-for-2 from the foul line.

The Camels improve their record to 15-4 with the triumph. The Bears fall to 5-12 with their seventh straight setback.

Sophomore Tara Gabelman (Irvington, N.Y.) chipped in with 13 points and four rebounds for the hosts, who stormed out to a 27-6 first half advantage.

Jocelyn Summers (Highland Park, N.J.) added 10 points in 20 minutes of action off of the Camel bench. Carlee Smith (Willimantic, Conn.) netted six points to go with seven assists for the winning side.

Coast Guard freshman forward Jamie Waterman (Jasper, Ga.) finished with eight points in the loss. Victoria Gurtler (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) contributed seven points in a 3-for-4 shooting performance. Dani Knox (Centreville, Va.) and Katilin Ward (Saline, Mich.) both had six points for the Bears.

The Camels took a 20-2 lead when Kaitlyn Crescencia (New Providence, N.J.) stole the ball and assisted Shinall for a hoop in transition with 10:59 remaining. On the ensuing possession, Ward knocked down a jumper for the Coast Guard to make it a 20-4 game.

However, the Camels responded with the next seven points. Shinall buried a three-ball and Gabelman canned jumpers on back-to-back possessions to put the Camels on top 27-4 with 7:54 remaining.

The Bears ended the half with a 7-to-0 run of their own, capped off a Knox jumper with 1:46 to play and the Camel lead was 35-18 at the intermission.

In the second stanza, Shinall caught fire, knocking down three triples in the opening moments of action. Shinall's trifecta with 15:16 remaining put the Camels in complete control with a 47-22 advantage.

The hosts continued to pull away for the 67-38 triumph.
