Connecticut College Qualifies For National Sailing Competition

Will compete in Oregon

The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

The Connecticut College coed sailing team has qualified for the Inter Collegiate Sailing Association/Gill Dinghy National Championship.

The Camels finished eighth in the Eastern Semifinal Championship that was hosted by the University of Southern California in Long Beach, Calif.

The Camels will head west to Cascade Lakes, Ore. to compete for the Henry A. Morse Trophy from May 30-June 1. The National Championship field will be comprised of the top nine finishing teams from the Eastern and Western Semifinal Championships.

The coed squad will join the Camel women's team at nationals. The fourth ranked Camel women will be contending for the Gerald C. Miller Trophy from May 23-26 in the ICSA/Sperry Top Sider Women's National Championship.

In the A division, sophomore skipper Atlantic Brugman (Barcelona, Spain), Steph Kapinos (South Hadley, Mass.), IG Schottlaender (Darien, Conn.), Lucy Wallace (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) and Kevin Lau-Hansen (Larchmont, N.Y.) all contributed to a ninth place finish with a score of 100 points for Connecticut College.

Rookie skipper Kevin Martland (Newport, R.I.) and junior crew Elizabeth Wilsterman (Winchester, Mass.) rallied the Camels with a strong showing in the B division, scoring 74 points en route to an sixth place finish for the Camels.
