Lacrosse teams handily defeat opponents in Wednesday games

The Connecticut College lacrosse teams won two games by large margins on Wednesday. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:
Men's Lacrosse: Conn College 16, SUNY-Farmingdale 8
John Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) exploded with five goals to lead the Connecticut College men's lacrosse team to a 16-8 victory against SUNY-Farmingdale in a non-conference game played at historic Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania Wednesday.

Lyons set the tone early, scoring the first two goals of the contest in the opening quarter and sparked the Camels on a 7-0 second half rally that sealed the victory.
The Camels improve to 1-3 with the win, while the Rams slip to 2-5 with the setback.

Chad Sawyer (Northfield, Ill.) had a big day with three goals and an assist for Connecticut College. JR Hartgers (Franklin Heights, N.J.) dished out a game-high four assists to go with a goal en route to a five point outburst.
Andrew Berry (Moorestown, N.J.) and Tyler Corcoran (Simsbury, Conn.) both had a goal and an assist for the Camels.
Senior Chuck Czerkawski (Cohasset, Mass.) registered a 76% winning percentage on face-offs (19-for-25) to go with a game-high 13 ground balls.
Rob Moccia (Malvern, Pa.) stopped six shots in 54:05 of action and was relieved by classmate John Lenehan (Hingham, Mass.), who recorded one save in the closing 5:55 of regulation.
Senior defender Brogan O'Connor (Haverhill, Mass.) collected three ground balls to go with a caused turnover.
SUNY-Farmingdale senior midfielder Jason Opitz (West Hempstead, N.Y.), Ryan Oswald (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.) all finished with two goals in the contest.
Rob Nosworthy (Massapequa, N.Y.) distributed three assists, while senior midfielder Shannon Robinson (Freeport, N.Y.) contributed two helpers.
Ricky Morales (Holbrook, N.Y.) corralled six ground balls to go with a pair of caused turnovers.
Senior net-minder Patrick Delventhal (Westbury, N.Y.) made 13 saves in 54:44 of action in the cage. Tom McDevitt (Levittown, N.Y.) made one stop in relief duty.
The Camels out-shot the Rams 54-to-27 and held a 38-22 advantage in ground balls.
Both teams will play their next game this Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Rams will look to rebound with a Skyline Conference game at Montclair State University. Connecticut College will visit the Charm City of Baltimore to take on NESCAC rival Williams College at Johns Hopkins University.
Women's Lacrosse: Conn College 18, UMass-Dartmouth 1
Maura Brazel (Boxboro, Mass.) erupted with four goals and two assists and sophomore Izzy Marx (Ridgewood, N.J.) scored three goals and assisted on two others to lead the Connecticut College women's lacrosse team to a convincing 18-1 victory against UMass Dartmouth at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.
The Camels improve their record to 2-3 with their second straight win, while the Corsairs slip to 2-3 with the loss.
Lowell Abbott (Manchester, Mass.) netted three goals for the winning side. Senior Katelyn Driscoll (Peabody, Mass.) had two goals and one assist.
Cecily Cushman (Marblehead, Mass.) and Charlotte McAuley (Summit, N.J.) both scored twice for the Camels.
Ashley Crutchfield (Concord, N.H.) and Bri Miller (Sudbury, Mass.) registered a goal and an assist for the winning side.
Junior net-minder Kelsey Burke (Kingston, N.H.) made one save to earn the win. Jen Morgan (Orange, Conn.) logged the closing 10:03 of regulation in her first action of the season.
Taylor Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) accounted for the Corsair offense with her fourth goal in the past two games.
Kathleen Landers (Danvers, Mass.) collected four ground balls for UMass Dartmouth.
Junior Angelina Donovan (Medford, Mass.) made nine stops in the setback and has stopped 39 shots in her first five starts of the season.
The Corsairs will visit Worcester State next Tuesday for a 4 p.m. game.
The Camels will continue their Sunshine State sojourn this Friday when they meet NESCAC rival Williams College for a noon game at the National Training Center in Clermont.
