The Connecticut College women's basketball and ice hockey games each chalked up a win on Saturday, while the men's basketball team fell to Babson College. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

Women's Basketball: Conn College 78, ACOP 43

Jenn Shinall poured in a game-high 22 points, knocking down 5-of-8 shots from beyond the arc and grabbing five steals, to lead the Connecticut College women's basketball team to a 78-43 victory over Albany College of Pharmacy in the first round of the Emerson College Tip Off Saturday. Carlee Smith dished out a game-high 10 assists to go with five points and two steals.

Kelsey Johnson finished with 14 points and six rebounds for ACOP. Alex Oaks added 11 points in the setback.

Men's Basketball: Babson 61, Conn College 51

At the 2011 Courtyard by Marriott Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon, Babson staved off a last-minute effort by Connecticut College at the end of the game to come away with the 61-51 win. Marcus McDermott (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished with a game-high 20 points along with nine rebounds and three assists. Russell Braithwaite (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added eight points and nine rebounds, while Matt Florio (Princeton, N.J.) chipped in with ten points.

Matt Vadas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) finished with 16 points and six rebounds for Connecticut College to lead the team. Rob Harrigan (Milford, Conn.) added 12 points and four boards. John Bullitt (Quincy, Mass.) had eight points and three steals.

"Our guys battled hard on the glass and defended hard against a tough, well coached team," Connecticut College head men's basketball coach Tom Satran said. "We came back three different times and took the lead but didn't consistently generate the type of shots we needed to get to beat a quality team."

Babson began the game on a 7-0 run before the Camels scored six straight to pull within one. That would be as close as Connecticut College would get as the Beavers lead wire-to-wire over the course of the half. The Beavers shot 48 percent (12-of-25) in the first half, while the Camels were only 7-of-22 (31.8%) in the period.

The Camels took their first lead of the game in the second half on a pair of free throws by Vadas to go up 32-30 with 14:37 to play. Connecticut held the lead for a six-minute stretch until a three-pointer by McDermott put Babson back on top 44-42 with 8:42 left. From there, an 11-3 Beaver run put Babson on top with just over a minute to play. A couple of Camel three-pointers pulled Connecticut to within six, but the Beavers hit all six of their free throws in the final minute to secure the win.

Roger Williams will face Babson in the championship game this afternoon at 3:00 p.m., with Connecticut College and Fisher playing in the consolation game prior at 1:00 p.m.

Women's Ice Hockey: Conn College 6, Trinity 2

Junior Ariel DiPasquale (Whitestone, N.Y.) scored twice and rookie net-minder Kelsie Fralick (West Chester, Pa.) stopped 27 of 29 shots to lead Connecticut College past ninth ranked Trinity College in a 6-2 NESCAC victory at Dayton Arena Saturday.

The Camels and Bantams close out the weekend with 1-1 record after Trinity took the front end of the two game series Friday night.

Sophomore forward Olivia Farrell (New York, N.Y.) dished out two assists for the winning side. Samantha Shuffenecker (Oswego, N.Y.), Sam Schoeneberger (Vernon, Conn.), Lauren Posillico (Nesconset, N.Y.) and Jillian Dolliff (Excelsior, Minn.) all had goals in the offensive uprising for the Camels. Trinity College senior forward Brigitte Cellino (Buffalo, N.Y.) recorded a goal and an assist in the setback for the visitors. Senior defender Payson Sword (Princeton, N.J.) chipped in with a goal for the Bantams.

Kristen Maxwell (Nashville, Tenn.) finished with 21 saves in goal for Trinity.

Posillico scored a critical goal at 7:32 of the third period that allowed the Camels to regain their two goal advantage at 4-2. The Camels added some additional insurance 1:46 later when first year forward Jen Morgan (Orange, Conn.) assisted Dolliff for a score in a 2-on-1 breakaway.

DiPasquale closed out the scoring with a power play marker at 18:41 to make it a 6-2 game.

Trinity applied heavy pressure in the second period, tallying 15 of their 29 shots in the frame. After falling behind 2-0 and 3-1, Cellino scored with 1:34 left in the period to make it a 3-2 game.

The Camels scored the only goal of the first period. First year forward Jess Descorcie (Westford, Vt.) stole the puck on her forecheck and hit Shuffenecker in the slot for a one-timer at 16:56 of the period.

Over the weekend, Connecticut College proved that they are a squad that has depth and capability of getting production from all four lines. The hosts piled up 68 shots in the two games.

The Camels were a perfect 7-for-7 on the penalty kill in Saturday's win.

Connecticut College will take a break and return to action Friday, Dec. 2 for a 7:00 p.m. NESCAC game against Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y.

The Bantams will host Nichols College Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. game in Hartford, Conn.
