Connecticut College Triumphs Over Merchant Marine
Men's lacrosse team scores third consecutive victory

The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team earned a victory against the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, director of sports information at Connecticut College:
Senior Mark Mangano (Basking Ridge, N.J.) scored three of his five goals in the opening half and assisted on a sixth score to help lead the Connecticut College men's lacrosse team to its third consecutive win in a 12-7 triumph against the United States Merchant Marine Academy Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore Stephen Eicher (Northport, N.Y.) and Danny Morici (Manhasset, N.Y.) scored two goals each for the winning side. Eric Doran (Pennington, N.J.) and Andrew Berry (Moorestown, N.J.) both contributed with two assists for Connecticut College.

Chuck Czerkawski (Cohasset, Mass.) corralled a team-best seven ground balls in the win and won 12-of-17 face-offs for the Camels.
Junior net-minder John Lenehan (Hingham, Mass.) stopped 11 shots in the victory for Connecticut College.

United States Merchant Marine Academy junior Sean Zakow (South Huntington, N.Y.) reached the 60 point barrier for the season, registering two goals and one assist in the setback. Michael Ackerman (Malvern, Pa.) chipped in with two scores for the visitors, while Andrew Kratsch (Caldwell, N.J.) recorded a goal and an assist in the setback.
Rookie net-minder Shawn Kane (Duluth, Ga.) finished with 20 saves in the loss for the Mariners.
The Camels built an early 3-0 advantage in the opening quarter when John Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) assisted Andrew Freedman (Sudbury, Mass.) for a goal at the 4:31 mark.
Mangano scored two of his team's four goals in the second quarter. With 2:15 remaining in the half, Doran assisted Mangano for a score to make it a 6-3 game. Less than a minute later, Mangano assisted Berry for a goal and the Camels carried a 7-3 advantage into the break.
Mangano and Morici scored the first two goals of the second half and the lead had ballooned to 9-3 with 12:06 remaining in the third.
However, the Mariners would score twice in a 42 second span of the third quarter to make it a 9-5 game with a Zakow extra man goal at the 10:08 mark.
But the Camels scored the next three goals to open up a 12-5 advantage and were able to hold on for the 12-7 win.
The Camels held a 52-31 edge in shots and won the ground ball war by a count of 41-to-23.
