Council Votes To Cut $4.2 Million From New London Education Budget

The New London City Council has voted to cut millions from the city's education budget due to uncertainty regarding the state budget.

NEW LONDON, CT - The New London City Council voted Monday night to cut millions from the city's education budget, the New London Day reported. The cuts come as a result of uncertainty surrounding the state budget.

The council voted to slash $4.2 million from the $41.7 million education budget, according to the New London Day. Councilors said the move comes in response to the likelihood of a possible drop in Educational Cost Sharing grant funds. The council had also considered an $823,800 cut in the general government side of the combined $90.05 million budget, the New London Day reported. These cuts however would have led to the elimination of multiple city positions.
