Crews Rescue Man From Water In New London

A man was rescued after he fell into the water at Thamesport Marina.

NEW LONDON, CT — Firefighters rescued a man who fell into Thamesport Marina around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday. According to a release from fire officials, crews were called to the scene at 260 Pequot Ave. for a man in the water screaming for help.

They found the man in water around six feet deep clinging to a boat at the North Dock. Firefighter Jodan Stelle jumped onto the swim platform of the boat along with two police officers.

Stelle worked to keep the patient above water with the rescue rope while additional personnel arrived. Firefighter Brian DeSilva was in a cold-water rescue suit and jumped into the water to assist in lifting out the patient.

The patient was loaded onto a stretcher and transported to L+M Hospital. The patient was treated for hypothermia.

"Without the quick actions and lifesaving techniques from the members of New London Fire Dept and the members of New London Police Department this patient’s outcome would have been much worse," the statement reads.
