Does New London Need More Polling Places?

A New London committee supports more polling places in town. Do you?

If the City Council's Public Welfare Committee gets its wish, New London will see double the number of polling places, from three to six.

The council unanimously lent its support to the increase in polling places at its Wednesday, June 11, meeting, according to The Day. The City Council will review the proposal at its next meeting — 7 p.m. Monday, June 16, in the Council Chambers, 181 State St.

Why the Committee Supports More Polls

  • Easier voter participation
  • Increased accessibility to polling places
  • Easier for people to walk to the polls

Three residents spoke against the increase in polling locations, saying they thought it was too expensive and an administrative avoidance tactic, The Day reports.

What do you think? Do you support an increase in polling places in town? Do you think more people will come out and vote?
