ECSU Defeats Conn College In Monday Basketball Game

Connecticut College slipped to 0-3 for the season on Monday after losing to Eastern Connecticut State University. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

Nick Nedwick (Irvington, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 22 points to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University men's basketball team to a 69-52 win at Connecticut College Monday night.

Hamilton Levy (Woodbury, Conn.) chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds for the visitors and Jamie Kohn (Columbia, Conn.) added 10 points and eight boards for the winning side.

Connecticut College junior Boris Jeremic (Rijeka, Croatia) netted 16 points for the Camels. Matt Vadas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) contributed 11 points and five rebounds for the hosts.

The Warriors improve to 3-1 with the win, while the Camels fall to 0-3 with the setback.

The Connecticut College community pulled together to donate canned food, non-perishable items and cash for the in New London.

"Eastern Connecticut State played very well, their ball movement was excellent," Connecticut College head men's basketball coach Tom Satran said. "I thought we settled for some threes that weren't great shots for us and that fueled their offense a bit. We need to do a better job getting the ball inside to different people and when w e do that I think our entire performance will improve."

The visitors built a 21-11 advantage when Nedwick converted a layup and one on the line with 8:08 remaining in the opening half. Later on in the half, Nedwick netted a free throw that pushed the Warrior edge to 33-18.

But the Camels closed out the half with a mini 6-to-2 run to pull to within 11. Jethro Anilus (Stamford, Conn.) buried a three-ball from the baseline with 1:43 to go and Jeremic added another trey with 5.3 ticks remaining to make it a 35-24 game at the break.

In the second stanza, the visitors used a 5-0 run to build a 52-33 lead when Kohn converted a field goal with 8:54 to go.

In the latter stages of the half, Connecticut College responded with a 9-to-2 scoring spurt in a span of 1:48 to pull to within 62-50. Rob Harrigan (Milford, Conn.) knocked down a three to cap the rally with 2:05 remaining.

However, on the ensuing possession, Nedwick answered with a hoop and some harm to push the lead back to 15 and the Warriors were able to hold on for the 69-52 triumph.

Connecticut College will host SUNY-Maritime this Friday night for a 6:00 p.m. game in the first round of the Citizens Bank Camel/Cadet Classic at Luce Field House.

The Warriors will host Little East Rival Southern Maine Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. game in Willimantic, Conn.
