The Executive Session is the name of the ensemble created by flutist Michael “Skip” McKinley which presents a wonderfully unique blend of mainly Irish traditional music with American folk roots music. The arrangements are further flavored by the musicians Skip has gathered for this musical journey: pianist Glenn Hardy and percussionist Mance Grady.
Skip McKinley’s first solo album The Executive Session evolved from a series of recording sessions at Stable Sound Studios in Portsmouth, RI. That album brought together some close friends including Seamus Connolly on fiddle and singer/songwriter Martin O’Malley (of Miltown Malbay) on guitar and Mance Grady on percussion. The selections include traditional Irish and Scottish dance music and a baroque piece by Telleman. In contrast with many solo recordings, the flute is masterfully interwoven to make a full band sound and to allow the art of the other musicians to be heard.
