Fire Destroys New London Home, Damages 4 Others

A fire ripped through five homes in New London Monday morning.

NEW LONDON, CT — Firefighters battled a blaze that destroyed at least one home on Mott Avenue in New London on Monday morning, WTNH News-8 reported. The fire reportedly began just after 9 a.m. at 11 Mott Ave., which was destroyed by flames.

Officials asked area residents to evacuate as firefighters battle the blaze, according to WTNH News-8.

A firefighter was injured and transported to the hospital. An investigation of what caused the blaze is underway.

The fire also damaged four other homes in the historic Neptune Park neighborhood, The New London Day reported.

It was initially classified as a two-alarm fire but fire officials called for a third alarm to bring in additional mutual aid. It took firefighters from several area departments about an hour and a half to get the blaze under control, The New London Day reported.
