Former CCSU Professor from New London Charged With Sexual Assault

The man is charged with sexually assaulting a student just prior to his resignation last fall.

A former Central Connecticut State University adjunct professor who left that institution nearly a year ago while “not in good standing” was arrested Wednesday on sexual assault charges, NBC Connecticut reported.

Daniel T. Gula, 51, a New London resident, was charged with third-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint, both felonies, and a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. He posted $10,000 cash bond, and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court Sept. 23, according to judicial records.

Those records indicate the crime took place Sept. 15, 2014, just 15 days before Gula, a part-time assistant professor of English, submitted his resignation. NBC Connecticut quoted CCSU spokesman Mark McLaughliin as saying the alleged victim was a student.
