UPDATE: New London Mayor Passero Offers Statement on Former Police Officer's Death
Police said the former officer was the subject of an ongoing internal investigation related to missing evidence.

GRISWOLD, CT — A former New London police officer was found dead in a car in Griswold on I-395, NBC Connecticut reported.
Russell MacDonald, 35, was found dead near exit 24 on the interstate, according to NBC Connecticut. Police said there is no foul play suspected nor any threat to the public.
A property officer with the department since 2008, MacDonald resigned in August 2015, according to NBC Connecticut. He was also the subject of an ongoing internal investigation related to missing evidence, such as drugs and cash.

"It is with a sense of sadness to learn of the untimely death of former New London Police Officer Russell MacDonald," New London Mayor Michael Passero said in a statement. "During this difficult period, the city wishes to expresses our condolences and thoughts to Mr. MacDonald’s family."
