Formica, Soto Volunteer On Comcast Cares Day

NEW LONDON — State Senator Paul Formica (Republican-East Lyme) and State Representative Chris Soto (Democrat-New London) volunteered at the Child & Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut’s B.P. Learned Mission in New London on Saturday, April 21 as part of Comcast Cares Day 2018.

Comcast Cares Day, which began in 2001, is one of the nation’s largest single day volunteer events. This year they anticipated over 100,000 volunteers nationally.

In New London, Comcast partnered with the Child & Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut to spruce up B.P. Learned Mission, located on Shaw Street.

Comcast employees, their families and friends were joined by Senator Paul Formica (Republican-East Lyme), State Representative Chris Soto (Democrat-New London), as well as volunteers from Arc New London County, B.P. Learned Mission and cadets from the Coast Guard Academy. Together, they landscaped and prepped the garden beds for planting season, in addition to spring cleaning the inside of the facility.

“I applaud Comcast for rolling up their sleeves in New London and investing in our community’s most important resource, our children,” Formica said in a release.

“It is great to see on such a beautiful day, the dots getting connected in New London between Comcast and B.P. Learned Mission to continue to move our community forward,” Soto said in a release.

“We are always grateful when Comcast and members of our community step forward to help us out,” CEO of Child & Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut Rick Calvert said in a release.

Calvert hosted a Comcast Cares Day site in New London.

“The B.P. Learned Mission has a long history in New London and is considered a center of excellence in the area of non-profit work on behalf of children in our region," Calvert said. "It is such a wonderful opportunity for Comcast employees to interact with our staff to build stronger bonds between people and groups in this part of the state.”
