Fundraiser Started For Infant Injured In New London Fire

A fundraiser has been started to support an infant injured in an arson fire in New London last week.

NEW LONDON, CT — A fundraiser has been started to support a 1-year-old infant who was injured in an arson fire in New London. The infant's mother, Shelby Dodson, 23, of 50 Sherman St., was killed last week.

Police have charged a man in connection with the homicide and fire. George Dodson, 23, of 50 Sherman St., was charged with murder, risk of injury to a minor, first-degree arson, and several other charges. Dodson was held in lieu of a $3 million bond.

A GoFundMe to support the child was started by Sylvonna White.

"I'm sure you've already learned of the tragic events that happened on the 20th of July," White wrote. "It is truly heartbreaking to know what happened, but we are all overjoyed that, at least, Everett's physical health is okay. He is due to move to his Aunt's home soon, but before that happens, the home must be set up to receive a one-year-old.

"Your donation will cover the costs of new baby equipment (crib, changing table, high chair...), diapers, food, toys, clothes etc, as well as the transportation costs for her to travel up to CT and pick him up.

"Any contribution you can make is greatly appreciated, as it eases the tension of this already horrible situation."

The fundraiser had brought in more than $7,000 of a $12,000 goal as of Wednesday.
