Handgun Fired at New London Middle School
Police said the handgun was found in the bathroom at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School.

New London police responded to Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School, 36 Waller St., after receiving a report of a weapon found inside the school at approximately 2:19 p.m. Wednesday, April 29.
School officials told police a handgun was found in a bathroom.
“Officers were able to determine that the handgun had discharged a shot inside of the school,” New London Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said in a press release. “School officials worked closely with New London Police to ensure the safety of the students that were present in the building at the time of the incident.”

The students were moved to a secure location and a search of the building was conducted by officers. No other weapons were located at the time, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
