NEW LONDON, CT — Ledge Light Health District has announced that all licensed cosmetology establishments should close effective 10 p.m. today, according to a statement from the health district. This includes all hairdressing and cosmetology salons, barber shops, nail salons, estheticians, and people engaging in facials, waxing, and makeup applications.

The closure will remain in effect until further notice.

"This action is necessary to promote social distancing and help lessen the spread of COVID-19 in our communities,” Director of Health Stephen Mansfield said in a statement. “While we recognize the challenges faced by small businesses when they cannot maintain regular operations, we absolutely must decrease the occurrence of close interpersonal interactions in order to reduce the transmission of COVID-19.”
